At which college would you be most likely to find Jesus?

The answer may surprise you. The reason probably won’t.

UPDATE: Article wasn’t behind paywall when I started the post, but it is now. Stupid Chronicle. Hmph.

  1. Okay Lex, I’ll bite. Which college is it? ……or are you directing us to “The Chronicle” to collect a commission on subscriptions. Why would you link to an article that is for paid subscribers only?
I don’t know about others but I’m not interested enough fork over cash for the info. How about quoting or citing something from the article or giving a synopsis? This could be an interesting discussion. What’s the point of your post? Are you decrying “Jesus Feaks”? Do you beleive that those that turn to any religion for meditative satisfaction are weak minded fools? Or do you just want to take up space in the blogosphere? It’s bad practiceto link to a “pay to view”. IT’S ALMOST AS BAD AS TYPING IN CAPS.

  2. The article was not behind the pay firewall when I started the post late this afternoon, Jon. That said, I’ll do it if I damn well please, if I think the synopsis suffices. If you don’t like it, no one’s forcing you to come here, jackass.

  3. Without a doubt you will do what you please but I stand by my comment. If you want an honest discussion then be honest, Your pretty touchy, and that’s proof enough that tacit agreement with your positions is what you want, and criticism is hard for you to take as well as the truth. What set you off? The fact that I rightly pointed out that you linked to a “pay to view” article that basically led to a dead end? Name calling by the way Lex is the refuge of those with no valid argument. I’ll accept your explanation that the article was not firewalled when you posted, but the fact is that you have not answered a single question as to the intent of your post. Let’s see…….maybe it was GWU, or Harvard, or maybe Duke, or Kansas State, or Elon. Oh I know……It’s the University of East Anglia where those Global Warming frauds have come to Jesus.

  4. When you are seeking Him, any college will do.

  5. In a way, Mike, that was sort of the point of the article.

What it actually said, IIRC, was that research suggests that evangelical Christians who attend evangelical schools often tend to have their views liberalized somewhat during their undergraduate careers. I can’t remember now why it said that happens.

In contrast, evangelicals who attend more “secular” schools often have their views strengthened because, being and feeling like a minority, they tend to band together and reinforce one another. That doesn’t happen at the evangelical schools because the train of thought there is kind of like oxygen — so common and pervasive that you don’t think about it much.

Jon: When someone I don’t know walks onto my blog and immediately and baselessly accuses me of doing something out of stupidity, greed/conflict of interest and/or malice, then, yes, I get to call you a jackass. If you think that makes me touchy, well, hey, my blog, my rules. If you want to play in this sandbox, then you criticize my arguments all you like, but you don’t get to cast aspersions on my motives when you know nothing about them or attack me (or any other commenter) personally.

    Are we clear?

  6. Copy that Lex, your ball, and if you don’t want to play you can take it home, but you are mistaken when you say I baselessly attacked you. I have accepted your explanation, and fully understand that links to pages may disappear over time but when I posted my first reply, your post was only 28 minutes old so it would seem that in that short time your link disappeared, which seems quite a coincidence. I framed by displeasure as questions and not as accusations. I was perfectly correct in stating that you linked to a site where the content was by subscription only, and that alone was the basis for my comments. Subsequently you started calling names, not me.

    • The post had appeared only 28 minutes before, but I actually started the post, including the link, about 5:30 or 5:45, didn’t finish, closed out, had dinner, etc., then finished and posted. Believe me or don’t, but you do yourself no favors when you immediately presume the worst.

Also, you know quite well that your questions came across as rhetorical, not sincere. And if you don’t know that, then you aren’t the writer you think you are.
