Blog on the Run: Reloaded

Welcome to my first housekeeping post since the move.

Item the 1th: Links. I intend, sometime in the next week or so, to move all my pre-existing links over from the Blogger template. But to be sure you remain on the list, particularly if your blog's URL has changed in recent months, feel free to e-mail me.

Item the 2th: Archives. I have begun reposting some of the pre-"Reloaded" Blog on the Run archives. (The April and May 2002 posts are up so far.) The good and bad news is that because they wouldn't import from Blogger or my backup files, I'm having to copy-and-paste each one manually.

That's bad because, well, it involves copying and pasting manually, which is tedious and time-consuming and easy to screw up. That's good because it allows me — indeed, practically forces me — to decide whether an earlier post really needs to still be up there. I know some blog purists think everything ought to still be out there, and I actually have some sympathy for that notion. But some stuff that was funny, or even just relevant, at the time it was posted no longer is. If there's no other compelling reason (e.g., a fine piece of pure writing even if its point is no longer apropos) to re-post it, why bother? (I still have all the old archives, however, and I'm open to argument on this point, so if you think I'm being totally screwy here, feel free to say so.)

  1. The idea of blog “purists” is just… sad.

  2. One argument for posting all of the archives is that they give a context and history. Even if they are seemingly unrelated, they can provide a glimpse into where you were at that particular time.

Of course the argument against is that you don’t WANT people to know where you were. It’s a part of your mystique.

  3. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to tell anyone anything about my whereabouts without my lawyer present.

Wait. What was the question, again?

  4. You don’t have to manually copy and paste. There’s a way move them over.

  5. A card laid is a card played . You are obviously going to redact anything that may prove embarasing down the road,
like in comment moderation . Wrong ?

  6. Actually, the comments are already gone. They died out of Haloscan after 90 days, remember?

  7. Yeah. I do remember that. Thanks for the reminder
