Quote of the Day, shutdown edition

Commenter Snarki, child of Loki, at Balloon Juice:

House Tea Partiers “have nailed their [penises] to the table, and are threatening to set the table on fire if they don’t get their way.”

  1. Also this:
“While the Neo-Confederate toddlers stamp their feet and hold their breath, it is America that is turning blue.”
from one of Sullivan’s wonderful and articulate readers here:

  2. Indeed. I would add that not enough has been made, including by me, of the neo-Confederate angle. This is absolutely an attempt at nullification. It doesn’t make the perps traitors in a legal sense, but it damn sure renders them unfit for office. Unfortunately, the perps control the House, which is where a remedy would have to begin.

  3. And while this jerk is closing American cemeteries here and in France ( Omaha Beach, Normandy)

Why Not Evict His Mother-In-Law from federal property,,, The White House where she is residing

    Let them eat cake !!!

    Comment by Fred Gregory — Monday, October 7, 2013 5:06 pm @ 5:06 pm | Reply

  4. So, what are we supposed to do, Fred? Leave the monuments and cemeteries unattended and open to vandalism? Because I’m sure THAT would go over well with the haters.

And evict his mother? Sorry, I’m having a hard time imagining Republicans urging W. to evict Barbara if the roles were reversed. This isn’t about principle. It’s about that uppity Negro in the White House; there’s a certain segment of the GOP base that finds his very existence literally maddening. And it’s not pretty for decent people to watch.

  5. Lex.. The WWII Veterans Memorial was unguarded before the shutdown, Gulp your Kool-Aid.

BTW it is his freahing Mother-Im-Law living in the WH.. Read for comprehension.

His commie mother died of cancer and was not denied coverage by an evil insurance company

    . Serial Liar

  6. So I didn’t read the thing closely. You know why? Because the shutdown is Boehner’s fault, full stop. All the rest is whining, and I’m tired of the whining.

  7. And let’s not say Barry has never created anything of substance…in this case, he’s created a whole new word! See here:

    1. barrycade
    1. A barrier (usually temporary) that exists for no reason. 2. A barrier erected for political reasons.

    “Dude, Obama barrycaded the park.”
“Hey, let’s put up some barrycades to keep those World War II veterans away from the open-air World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., in order to try and score some cheap political points.”

  8. Speaking of cheap political points …

  9. Out of valid arguments so he turns to vapid and incoherent ” your mother wears combat boots ” Puleeze. Nothing close to approacing trying to keep WWII Vets from their memorial .. Truly a slimy, dispicable and shameful act.. You know the LIV voters might even see this for what it is… tawdry and spiteful political thaetre on the part of the administration.

  10. Oh, I dunno. Kids dying for lack of experimental cancer treatment. The WIC program in N.C. running out of money. Honestly, I can think of many things more bothersome than some inconvenienced vets, however honorable their service. And your refusal to recognize that John Boehner is at fault and could fix this with one vote, but refuses to hold it even though he claims to “know” it wouldn’t pass, is just sad.

  11. Holy underwear . What sob story demagogic hyperbole. ( you failed to mention Granny being pushed over the cliff ) Huey Long couldn’t have done better.Yeah the house could/blink.cave and we could have one party rule for the foreseeable future . Harrry Reid has really shown his empathy for kids dying of cancer. NOT ! .Your fidelity to this crook, and your Boehner derangement syndrome, well, are not so rational..

Guess you are not happy with things in Faleigh either. Trudeau isn’t either

  12. Beyond shameful behavior by the Punisher-in-Chief….but in this case, his temper-tantrum is causing real pain for the families of military veterans killed in action. This is despicable – and evil.

” Lawmakers Say Military Pay Bill Should Have Covered KIA Payments Frozen by Hagel
The ultimate shutdown theater inflicting pain on those who have paid the most.

WASHINGTON — Lawmakers say that they gave the Pentagon authority to pay death gratuities to survivors of service members killed in action in an emergency appropriations measure — and were shocked when the Defense Department suspended the payments.

Even as anger was directed at Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s “interpretation” of the bill from both sides of the aisle, a donor stepped in with an offer to cover the immediate payments to family members until the Defense Department decides to reimburse.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) noted that Congress last week passed the Pay Our Military Act “with the express intent that all military pay and allowances would be dispersed during a government shutdown.”

That passed both chambers unanimously before being signed by President Obama on the eve of the shutdown. The bill provides for “such sums as are necessary to provide pay and allowances to members of the Armed Forces” on active duty, essential civilian personnel and essential contractors.”

  13. The Republicans were the ones who wanted a shutdown, and now that they’ve gotten what they wanted they’re unhappy, and I’m supposed to feel sorry for them at all? Forget them and the horse they rode in on.

    Comment by Lex — Wednesday, October 9, 2013 1:26 pm @ 1:26 pm | Reply

  14. Really Lex, read it again and tell me … Why is Hagel punishing the widows and little chidren of our KIAs despite a law passed and signed to provide for them ?
And don’t blame Bioehner OR Bush

And now a new low in peevishness

SpiteHouse: National Park goons remove handles from trail water fountains

” It what looks like a spiteful move, the NPS even removed handles from water spigots along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal where bikers and joggers exercise as well as along the Great Allegheny Passage, just to ensure people don’t get any water from them.

Instead of saving money, the NPS is expending additional resources to go out of its way to close such locations and to make people miserable.

There’s really no scenario where this ends well for the NPS. First, several of their workers have lost their wages, workers are working without pay, and when the dust settles, heads will roll in subsequent investigations. The NPS is making itself unpopular with the American public, which is stewing for vengeance as the weather turns cold and bitter.”

    Comment by Fred Gregory — Wednesday, October 9, 2013 6:10 pm @ 6:10 pm | Reply

  15. You know what, Fred, I’m sure some individual managers are using poor judgment — not just in NPS, but in every agency that has any flexibility at all to control what does and does not get “shut down” when the government shuts down.

But, once again and now so many times that I have to think it’s deliberate, you’re missing the big picture. Boehner and the House Republicans own this. Polling shows the American people get it and are not pleased. You can raise all the Shiny Objects you want, and that’s not going to change.

    Comment by Fred Gregory — Friday, October 11, 2013 7:17 pm @ 7:17 pm | Reply

  21. Big deal. It wouldn’t be an issue if, at any point in the past nine months, Republicans had negotiated on the budget in good faith. Rather, they PLANNED FOR MONTHS for a shutdown. And now that people are holding them responsible I’m supposed to care about THEIR problems and watch their Shiny Objects? No, I think not.
