… health, family, friends, prosperity, and a country so great that not even 35 years’ worth of the best efforts of waterheads, mouthbreathers, knuckle-draggers, and straight-up sociopaths has managed to totally screw it up. Yet.

The Grand Sultan counsels us that on this day we need to include in our prayers thanks for the adversity in our lives, without which there would be no way to contrast between bad and wonderful, good and evil, light and darkness, right and wrong, freedom and subjugation; we would be without the means to truly appreciate and value how fortunate we are. It is human nature to avoid adversity, but no one will be able to do so and most will acknowledge, if only after the fact, that it made them a better person for having persevered through hard times. It is an interesting and stoical observation woven into a Thanksgiving Day message as only Mr. Greenfield can do.
